In late 2021, we launched AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS), which is now the recommended service for disaster recovery on AWS.
AWS DRS is the next generation of CloudEndure Disaster RecoveryThe CloudEndure solution that enables the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems in case of a crippling event. (CEDR), offering features and operational benefits that are not available with CEDR, such as direct access from the AWS Management Console and seamless integration with AWS services.
As we announced in 2022, we will begin limiting the availability of CEDR in all AWS Regions. Note: AWS China Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions will continue to be supported, as well as customers using disaster recovery through Amazon Managed Services (AMS) and customers using CEDR with AWS Outposts. This will take place according to the following schedule:
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) is now the recommended service for disaster recovery on AWS. AWS DRS is based on CloudEndure Disaster RecoveryThe CloudEndure solution that enables the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems in case of a crippling event. (CEDR) technology, offering similar capabilities and additional benefits. We recommend upgrading to AWS DRS to replicate and recover your servers on AWS.
AWS DRS supports all of the AWS Regions as CloudEndure Disaster RecoveryThe CloudEndure solution that enables the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems in case of a crippling event. except AWS GovCloud (US) and China Regions. In addition, AWS DRS continues to expand support for new AWS Regions. Each Region has multiple, isolated locations known as Zones. Zones are isolated from one another, but Zones within the same Region are connected through low-latency links. We are planning for AWS DRS to support AWS GovCloud (US) Regions for recovery, and will update once these Regions are available. You can use CEDR until we expand DRS support of AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

We are planning for AWS DRS to support AWS Outposts as a recovery site and will update once this is available. To use CEDR for recovery to AWS Outposts, follow this guide.
Yes, you can use our tool to automate the upgrade from CEDR to AWS DRS. You can also perform this upgrade manually. For more details, see this CEDR to DRS upgrade guide and watch this 4-minute upgrade tutorial.

* Additional support options are available according to your AWS support plan.If you do not want to upgrade on your own, there are several AWS Partners that can offer assistance. The AWS Partners listed below are offering an assessment and upgrade with no additional cost. The assessment will analyze your current disaster recovery strategy, infrastructure, and business needs to identify challenges and create a plan to complete the upgrade process from CloudEndure Disaster RecoveryThe CloudEndure solution that enables the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems in case of a crippling event. to AWS Elastic Disaster RecoveryThe CloudEndure solution that enables the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems in case of a crippling event. (DRS). After completion of the assessment, an upgrade plan will be created with timelines, infrastructure provisioning, data replication, and testing.
